The Danville City Council Public Works Committee has made the move, subject to full City Council approval, to replace the lighting system at Danville Stadium.  Parks and Public Property Manager Steve Lane says this is a $295,000 capital improvement project, but will be eligible for a $21,000 rebate from Ameren because they’re putting in LED lighting.  He says it’s a great investment.  And that’s not only because the current system is 28 years old; but also because 64 light fixtures, pumping out 105,600 watts, will be replaced by 37 fixtures, pumping out 55,000 watts from modern LED lighting.

The plan is to have the new lighting in place for this year’s Danville Dans season.

Also during Tuesday night’s public works committee meeting, five more properties on Robinson Street and North Gilbert Street were cleared for purchase by the city, as work continues to create room for Kirchner Building Centers’ new location, on the northwest corner of Fairchild and Gilbert at the old Goodwill Building.  City Engineer Sam Cole says, only three more properties need to be purchased.

The old Goodwill building at Gilbert and Fairchild, and surrounding properties being purchased by the city, will be the new home for Kirchner Building Centers.

AUDIO: The goal is still to own all of the properties by late spring or early summer, do demolitions on all the properties during the second half of this year, and then turn the whole site over to Kirchner by the end of 2023.

By the end of this week or so, Cole says the City of Danville web site should have a listing of what streets will be getting worked on this year due to state Motor Fuel Tax funds.  Cole says he looks for a busy schedule like last year, with hopefully one difference.

AUDIO: Based on our projections, it’s going to shape up to be just as busy of a year as last year.  Hopefully without all the railroad crossings would be the goal.

Bidding for the new Garfield Park and Pool, being paid for by COVID relief ARPA funds, was scheduled to begin Wednesday morning, February 15th.

And scheduled to begin Wednesday morning was the bidding for who will handle the building of the new Garfield Park and Garfield Pool; which is being paid for by COVID relief ARPA funding received by the city.  There could be one contractor handling the entire project, or one for the park portion and one for the pool portion.
